TRANScending Love: For the Boiss
This digital campaign is dedicated to African, Caribbean, and Black Transmen and Bois in Transition. The campaign blends fitness and community to highlight strength and joy. Under the theme, strength without aggression, the campaign consist of videos and portraits at a gym owned and operated by a Black Transman and in Trinity Bellwoods park.
The term Boi in Transition (BITTI) is used to describe a cool, calm, and laidback Trans person who expresses masculinity without aggression. The term seeks to affirm those who use it. Bitti is a Turkish word meaning it’s finish, it’s done, and it’s over.
Behind the scenes
Our work is guided by our Collective Care principles which is at the heart of everything we do.
To successfully execute this project, we engaged almost 40 people in the creative process through a survey, focus group, and consultations. While Black transmen are often on the periphery of most community engagements, we decided to center their experience as the face, voice, and creative mind in this project.
We asked, “Where are the bois?” and they showed up.
